Hokkaido
Frost-depth foundations, snow-load structures, high insulation — cold-climate building is a different discipline. We design from Osaka and build with vetted local partners in Niseko and Sapporo.
Key districts
Climate & environment
A heavy-snow cold region: below −10°C with 1–2 m of snow in winter. Foundations bear to frost depth (roughly 60–120 cm); roofs are designed snow-retaining or with planned shedding. Summers are cool — the services design brief differs entirely from Honshu.
Building considerations
- Frost-depth footing embedment and frost-heave / pipe-freeze protection
- Structural design for 1–2 m design snow loads; snow-retaining roofs
- Insulation specs for energy zones 1–2 (added insulation, triple glazing)
- Kutchan / Niseko landscape ordinances and Hirafu height-and-color rules
- Snow-clearing logistics and winter construction scheduling
