Design Approach

Full renovation of a 7-story hotel in the historic Uemachi plateau — Ikutamacho in Tennoji-ku. Facade lighting that exploits the night view, wa-tone guest rooms, and sculptural common-area wall art bring the location's context to the foreground. The project embodies a dialogue between old terrain and new architecture, offering international guests a different face of Osaka. Rooms, common areas and MEP were all renewed, extending the existing building's useful life by ~30 years.

Client's Voice

An ageing 7-story building was reborn as a hotel that speaks to the Uemachi plateau through wa-tone guest rooms and sculptural wall art. The historic context of the site is preserved, but every system is fully renewed. Extending the existing frame's life by ~30 years transformed the investment math, overseas guests now describe it as "another face of Osaka," and overseas OTA reviews are holding at 5.0.
